Experience Corps

Would you like to help young readers to achieve grade level skills?  Join Experience Corps of Greater New Haven and tutor 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students in nearby schools and after-school programs.  If you are age 50+, enjoy both reading and helping young children, join us.  We provide the training and support you need.  Volunteer 2 or more hours a week and commit to the school schedule from October through May.  More about Experience Corps

 

Foster Grandparents program

Serve as role model to children in need of special attention through the Foster Grandparents Program. Foster Grandparents share their life’s experiences and spend special time with children who need help at a critical time in their lives. Grandparents serve 5-40 per week with their assigned children. This is one-to one special time that the grandparent provides through the following activities:

  • Mentoring
  • Tutoring
  • Assisting with special assignments as directed by a teacher
  • Helping children in their development of appropriate behavior
  • Sharing love, attention and experience

Eligibility requirements are: 55 years of age, income eligible (no more than 200% of the poverty level), passing background check. 
Foster Grandparents is funded by AmericCorps (Corporation for National and Community Service).

 

RSVP

RSVP provides opportunities for volunteers to participate in intergenerational activities.  Volunteers provide mentoring and tutoring support through school supported activities in the Greater New Haven area, helping students gain important skills for improved lifelong learning
